On top of every camping list when getting ready for the trip should be the black diamon storm 500-r. The black diamond storm 500-r is one of my favorite headlamps after trying numerous headlights on numerous camping trips ranging from the mountains to the forests. What makes the storm 500-r one of the best headlamp is the battery life, brightness, and durability. If you’re an avid camper looking for the best headlamp or something to help you in the dark when working on numerous projects the 500-r is one of your best options.
The 500 lumens proves up to 120 m of light making this headlamp a viable option for any camping trip. The long battery life and multiple dimness level at the touch of a finger easy a really convenient option. The headlamp is best for hikers who need a high end lamp to last the whole weekend. If you’re only looking to use It a short while on your trip there’s more reasonable option since this is on the higher end of cost.
First Impressions & Build Quality
As soon as you remove the 500-r from the box you can feel the solidness of the headlamp. Although I can feel a little heavier compared to other headlamps, the build of the 500-R genuinely feels like a luxury headlamp. I’ve dropped the headlamp from very high vantages and other than a few scratches the headlamp is fully intact with no issues.
One of my favorite features of the headlamp is the on-off button. Other headlamps’ power button cycles through all the modes before turning off. The 500-R power button functions exactly as it should and doesn’t go through all the cycles. The secondary button provides a quick option to adjust the mode you’re looking to use.
One con of the headlamp is the brightness touch button. It can be sensitive and times and accidentally adjust itself and you’ll need to readjust the brightness. I wish instead of touch it could’ve been either a dial or solid button where it wouldn’t be as sensitive.
